רובין גרוס

רובין גרוס עלתה ארצה מאוסטרליה בשנת 1985. היא מורה מוסמכת בעלת ניסיון רב. חוויית העלייה שלה היה טוב עד שילדיה נכנסו למערכת החינוך בישראל. הגן היה נהדר ובית הספר היסודי היה בסדר. אולם היא התאכזבה מאוד מלימודי היהדות בבתי הספר. היא הרגישה שהיהדות חסרה. זה הוביל אותה להשתלב בהקמת בית הספר תל"י ברעננה. בינתיים, היא העבירה את משפחתה להוד השרון כדי שילדיה יוכלו ללמוד בבית הספר תל"י שכבר היה קיים שם. זה הסתדר מצוין חוץ מזה שבית הספר הסתיים בכיתה ט'. בנה הבכור של רובין למד בתיכון הממלכתי המקומי, שהיה בסדר אבל, שוב, לא היו לו לימודי יהדות אמיתיים. אז נפגשה לראשונה עם שאר חברי מייסדי מיתרים רעננה. במפגשים אלו הבינה את הצורך בבית ספר תיכון עם תכנים יהודיים אמיתיים ויותר מזה, בבית ספר שישרת גם תלמידים שומרי מצוות וגם לא שומרי מצוות הלומדים ביחד וזה מזה. רובין נזכרת כיצד אותר בניין שכולם חשבו יהיה זמני (ובסופו של דבר שירת את בית הספר במשך 19 שנים!) והיא, יחד עם מישל קפלן גרין ואחרים עבדו על פירוק שטיחים וניקיון חדרי שירותים. רובין לימדה אנגלית ודרמה במיתרים בשנותיו הראשונים והכירה לתלמידי מיתרים תכנית "דיבייט". גלעד, בעלה של רובין, גם התנדב אין-ספור שעות במשך שנים במיתרים רעננה ושימש כאיש טכנולוגיית המידע. בנה השני של רובין למד במיתרים רעננה ואף הצליח לפתח את התשוקה שלו למוזיקה על ידי השתתפות במגמת מוזיקה בתיכון סמוך במרחק הליכה. רובין מאמינה שהוא קיבל חינוך מצוין במיתרים. חבריו הקרובים ביותר כיום הם מאותה תקופה. שירותו הצבאי הושפע רבות גם מתקופתו במיתרים. ההשתתפות במפגשים שבועיים רבים על מנת להקים את בית הספר מיתרים הפכה לתשוקה של רובין. הנחת היסודות לבניין בית הספר הייתה גולת הכותרת בחייה של רובין.

Robyn Gross

Robyn made Aliya from Australia in 1985. She is a qualified and experienced teacher. Everything about her Aliya was good until her children entered the Israeli school system. The kindergarten was great and the lower elementary school was ok. However, she was highly disappointed with the Jewish studies in the schools. She felt the Jewishness was missing.  This led her to get involved in establishing the Tali school in Ra’anana. She even moved her family to Hod HaSharon so that her children could attend the Tali school there. This worked out fine except that the school ended with 9th grade. Robyn’s eldest son went to the local high school, which was fine but had no real Jewish studies. That was when she first met with the other Meitarim Founders. It was at these meetings that she realized the need for a high school with real Jewish content and more than that, for a school that would serve both observant and non-observant students learning together and from each other. Robyn recalls how a building was located that all thought would be temporary (and ended up serving the school for 19 years!) and she, together with Michele Kaplan Green and others worked pulling up carpeting and cleaning bathrooms. Robyn taught English and Drama at Meitarim in its early years and introduced Meitarim students to Debate. Robyn’s husband Gilad also volunteered countless hours for many years as the Meitarim IT person. Robyn’s second son was able to learn at Meitarim and even pursue his passion for music by attending music classes at a neighboring high school within walking distance.  Robyn believes he received an excellent education at Meitarim. His closest friends today are from that time. His army service was heavily influenced from his time at Meitarim as well.  Attending many, many weekly meetings in order to establish the Meitarim School became a passion for Robyn.  Laying the foundations for the school building was a real highlight of Robyn’s life.
